The Challenge

Dotdash Meredith’s team works hard to ensure that the brands their customers know and trust are as efficient and helpful. While every publication has a different audience and a different focus, there are still a lot of useful ways design can improve a customer’s viewing experience.

For some of the publications that the team works on, it is crucially important to ensure that they are presenting valuable information in a way that customers can easily understand. A popular feature they use often is a product roundup, or a list of recommended products for customers to compare for optimized purchasing. So the research team turns to PlaybookUX to conduct unmoderated studies around the product clarity.

The Outcome

Among many initiatives, Dotdash Meredith leveraged PlaybookUX to understand the product roundup clarity.

The design team asked participants to view a sample product roundup, one with a rating scale of numbers (4/5) and one using a visual aid of stars . After that, they asked the participants questions to gauge whether they understood what they symbolized. When reviewing the results, the designers were pleased to find that customers understood both methods perfectly, which allowed them to change the rating scale for subsections to numbers (4/5) and use stars for the bigger sections – this frees up more space on the page for quality content and insights to help customers choose the perfect product for them!

We are always trying to better understand our users, including learning about their perception of our brands, if they trust the brand. This is often the most important question because our brands are mostly reference / how-to / evergreen content. PlaybookUX is the perfect solution for doing just this.
