The Challenge
Phantom was launched during a time of robust growth in the cryptocurrency market as a whole and quickly became one of the most popular browser-extension wallets for blockchain. Within a year of launching, Phantom gained more than three million users.
Phantom has since expanded beyond being just a browser extension, creating mobile versions of the wallet for iOS and Android.
With exponential growth in a fast-paced and highly regulated industry, Phantom felt the pressure to quickly build and ship new products. In the cryptocurrency industry, customers are known to switch to alternatives if their current provider does not offer a frictionless, premium-quality experience.
The Outcome
Phantom leveraged PlaybookUX while developing their mobile apps for iOS and Android. Nathan and his colleagues needed to quickly recruit large samples of cryptocurrency traders to gather first impressions on the designs. Once a working prototype was available, they used unmoderated usability testing to iterate on the design, usability, and interactions.

The Phantom team continues to use PlaybookUX to improve usability across their mobile apps, Chrome extension and to gather feedback on in-product offerings and features prior releasing them to the general public.
Through the use of PlaybookUX, Phantom was able to increase conversions related to new product offerings and upsells within their applications. These upsells drive revenue growth within the organization.Â
One of the most valuable series of projects we conducted with PlaybookUX was on our coin/token swapper, allowing us to observe a large group of users interacting with our core product. These projects highlighted several areas of friction that were slowing users down and impacting the swapper’s usability—critical insights, as this feature drives our company’s revenue.
We shared videos and insights with the management team, showing users struggling to complete swaps. Watching these pain points in real time was eye-opening and incredibly impactful.
Since implementing changes based on those insights, we’ve seen a significant boost in swapper revenue, consistently breaking our previous records.
